Sleeping AM/FM player in your iPhone & iPod?

iphone-fm-am

The guys over at 9to5Mac are at it again with reports that Apple is on the cusp of releasing an FM/AM radio application for the iPhone & iPod Touch that will turn on AM/FM transceiver that is in your current devices.

There can be some truth to this as there is a small transceiver used to communicate with Nike + widget. This wouldn’t be the first time Apple enabled hardware later after its release. After the 3.0 firmware update we had Bluetooth capabilities all of a sudden on the iPod Touch’s.

That is conceivable up until the rumor says:

The holdup on this app is that Apple is trying to integrate the Mobile iTunes Store purchases into the functionality of the program.

Don’t see why Apple would want to do away with or offer an alternative to the successful Appstore, and if they did why would they have issues after already accomplishing tune-tagging on the Nano. You know what they say about rumors -  sometimes there is a bit of truth in there.
