Apple has decided that iTunes LP will be exclusive to only big names such as Jay-Z, Dave Mathews, Grateful Dead etc, you get the picture. If you are an up and coming artist or just someone like my friend Slug here whom chooses to stay on a indie label (Picture above) than you are ass’ed out as the saying goes.
Apples sales reps have verified to an anonymous independent record label producer that “not only is it not offered to indie-labels, but there will be a hefty $10,000 fee for licensing the format per Artist. That would explain the very small collection of 13 iTunes LP’s out currently.
My opinion: Sounds like Apple is getting more elites on us. Seclusion of groups is not cool Apple. Do you want to be the Music Nazi? Most great music out is Independent Music. Mainstream media is usually damaged by marketing ploys and rushed Artist but I digress. The point is why block hungry producers who want to embrace your idea? You want iTunes LP to grow right? Unlock the door if you do want to grow. As of now I personally do not want any iTunes LP, if you had a larger selection than maybe I would. My only assumption to Apple’s thought process is they could not manage all the Artist iTunes LP if they allowed anyone in .
