Ever wanted to control your computer(s) with an iPhone or iPod Touch on the go? Done- LogMeIn Ignition App allows you to do just that. Control your PC or Mac as if you were sitting right in front of it.
So now that you have the general idea of what this powerful app is for, lets review. The install could not be more simple. Download LogMeIn Ignition ($29.99) from the Appstore of course, and then go register at LogMeIn’s site and download the lite remote access program. Install and Voila!- its ready for remote access.
So I tested LogMeIn around town today with my PC and Macbook setup at home. My PC was running through a LAN, while my Macbook is currently wireless. My Macbook connection suffered from the mistake of a weak connection. Random loss of connection made me give up and move on to the PC. It ran alright, not always instant but still something to brag about to the friends.
I accessed a few programs like Outlook and even Photoshop to my surprise, and after some practice and tweaks in the settings I got pretty good with navigating on the smaller iPhone screen. Navigating consists of your normal pinching and pulling to zoom-in, and out. I had to change the mouse to move with my finger instead of the default centering of the cursor which I found odd, which made a world of difference for me. When I got the bright idea of trying to watch a video on it, I loaded a video only to find a choppy playback. Perhaps on a fast Wifi connection I may have had better luck, but I don’t think that this is the purpose of LogMeIn anyhow.
So who is LogMeIn for then? Anyone can enjoy controlling there CPU(s) on the go, but are you willing to pay the $29.99 for the app. If you are the businessman on the go this is probably a perfect fit. If you are just trying to stream your Buffy Season two to your iPhone on the go- you’re in for disappointment. Really powerful app none the less, we recommend trying out some of LogMeIns other programs for computer to computer remote access also as there is free trials to test before purchase.
