Speedball 2 Evolution out now for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch
iPhone, iPad and iPod touch gaming just got a lot more brutal, as Tower Studios and Vivid Games release Speedball 2: Evolution, now available on the App Store.
Tower Studios and Vivid Games are very happy to announce that at last The Bitmap Brothers’ Speedball 2 Evolution iOS is now live on the App Store across the world. “We’d like to apologise to all Speedball fans for the three-day delay in release,” said Jon Hare, the game’s creative director. “However, when they see the playability, depth and quality of the game for just £2.39 we’re sure they’ll agree it has been well worth the wait.”
Priced just £2.39 / €2.99 / $3.99, Speedball 2 Evolution is a phenomenal update to the classic futuristic sports game which first appeared in 1990.
Often imitated, but never bettered, the futuristic sports game will prove its enduring appeal with Speedball 2 Evolution – which retains all the hallmarks of the original Amiga release, but updates it for the iPhone generation.
“This great game just got a whole lot better,” says Jon Hare, the games creative director and CEO of publisher, Tower Studios. “The Bitmap Brothers classic is now available to a whole new generation of gamers. Retaining its intuitive, quick to learn brutal playability, it’s as fresh and impressive today as ever – and with all-new teams and competitions, plus multiplayer mode and 10 season career mode, this version is also deeper than ever before.”
With quick-play, league and cup tournaments, players can enjoy a quick game or a more structured competition – but it is the comprehensive career mode, including the new Speedball Champions League, which offers hour upon hour of entertainment which will really grab the attention.
The game offers two alternative control systems: a classic, soft joypad, which replicates the controls of the early computer versions, and a new, innovative tilt-to-move option, in which team-mates can be manipulated simply by moving the device, meaning the whole screen can be seen at all times on the iPhone.
Other enhancements include brand new visuals designed specifically to showcase the iOS devices, local multiplayer competitions across Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and a host of gameplay tweaks designed to deliver the perfect Speedball experience.
Of course, the original game’s combination of fast-based cartoon violence, tongue-in-cheek humour, and perfect playability remain – making this the ideal handheld sports title for veteran Speedball players or newcomers to this most competitive of sports.
