A sit down with JWonggg – SFIV National Champion Justin Wong
Salutations, fighting game fanatics! So, a little earlier this week, we had a visitor here at the DasReviews office: none other than Justin Wong, your SFIV National Champ!
Some of you out there might be saying to yourselves, “Justin Wong? Where have I heard that name before? …something about a turtle-style.” Almost every interwebs savvy gamer out there has seen the mega-viral online video from Evo 2004 showing footage from Justin’s Chun-Li stylings versus “The Beast” Daigo’s Ken. Unfortunately, that match didn’t turn out too well for Justin. That hasn’t stopped him, though. Not one to fade into internet obscurity, Justin’s kept active within the fighting game competitive community. In fact, he’s become one of its permanent fixtures.
Much like you talk about LeBron James in pro basketball or Peyton Manning in pro football, pro fighting gamers talk about Justin Wong.
And here he is on our office couch, answering questions about life, love, and the pursuit of gaming happiness. Enjoy!
Now, I’ve never competed against Justin, so I can’t speak on how he is on the gaming floor. But as far as I know, he’s a very nice, very down to earth guy that takes his craft seriously. I can appreciate that in anyone. What really impresses me is the breadth of his fighting game knowledge. It’s like Lucas in the Wizard. Anything Capcom or SNK…he KNOWS all those games. Not sure about Justin’s stance on the Power Glove, though. It’s so bad.
Also, he hands out masterful beatdowns in Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Masterful. He was pretty handy at dishing out pwnage in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, as well. Footage soon. In the meantime, we’ve got stills!
Edit: As promised – Footage of Justin Wong’s epic battle with OldSkoolFool! Who will take the DasReviews crown!?
