Spider-Man 4 slated for 2012 – subtract Raimi and Maguire, add teen angst, stir

Spider-Man franchise rebooted
Wow, comic-gaming fans.  The world doth rumble in the comic book movie world!  The epicenter: Spider-Man. The digs: franchise reboot.  You heard it folks! According to a press release by Sony this morning, looks like Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios have decided to go on with the franchise without Sam Raimi or Tobey Maguire, the pair that have been central to the franchise for the past decade.

And get this, game fans: Come 2012, Spidey’s going back to high school.  Yes… I see the very scary possibility of emo-Peter from Spider-Man 3 being stretched out over 90-minutes.  Let’s hope I’m very, very wrong.

From the mouth of Sony:

Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.

Ah, friends… looks like the movie-Spidey we once knew and loved has officially died.  New decade, new Spider-man, I suppose. Goodbye 2000s, I shall think upon you every fortnight.

More news forthcoming as it breaks!112
