Steve Wiebe Retakes Donkey Kong World Record From Billy Mitchell

By on September 20, 2010

Chronicled in the notoriously awesome documentary King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, the rivalry of Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchel is well known among gamers. Although the depiction of Billy Mitchel is controversial for its authenticity, we sure got a treat of a movie out of it.

The current record was batting between the both of them and recently taken by Hank Chien, a plastic surgeon from New York with a then high score of 1,061,700. Billy came back within just a few months, overtaking him with 1,062,800 points. Billy has held the record until today.

From a tape submitted on August 30th, Twin Galaxies has confirmed Wiebe’s 1,064,500 points as the current world record. Wow! That’s the third time in a year the record has changed hands! Can Mitchell retake his title by the end of the year? Or will the hot sauce be stuck in second place?

By the way, if you haven’t seen King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters you need to check it out. Seriously awesome. Here, we’ll even give you a link to the movie on Netflix. You won’t even have to search for it. Just click on the picture below and enjoy the awesomeness. You are welcome.
